Steam Generator Replacement
During the 40 year initial license period of a pressurized water reactor, replacement of the steam generators is likely at least once. Eventually, when about 15% of the 3000+ tubes in the steam generator have been plugged, heat transfer properties deteriorate such that replacement is needed for the plant to maintain full power. Typically an outage will require 35 to 60 days to replace steam generators. Steam generator costs run ~ $100 million.
