CANDU Plants


CANDU plants currently operating are located in Canada, Korea, Argentina, and Romania. A number of the plants are shown below. The AECL history started in 1945 with the ZEEP plant and has evolved to the Quinsan, China plants due to startup in 2003.

Pickering - Ontario Power Generation

  • 8 units - 540 MWe each

Darlington Nuclear Power Station - Ontario Power Generation

  • 4 units operating - 935 MWe each

Bruce Nuclear Power Development - Bruce Power 

  • Heavy Water Production Facility

  • Bruce A - 3 units - 904 MWe each (1, 3, 4)

  • Each A unit produces 825 MWe + 79 MWe steam

  • Steam is used by heavy water production plant

  • Steam is also used by local businesses setup nearby

  • Bruce A (2) - currently mothballed

  • Bruce B - 4 units - 915 MWe each

Wolsung Nuclear Power Plant-Korea

  • 1 unit completed - 678 MWe

  • 3 under construction (due in 97, 98, 99)
