Power Plants - Bulgaria
Kozloduy Nuclear Power Station
The 6 unit Kozloduy facility is located in northern Bulgaria near the Danube River adjoining Romania . The Danube is used for cooling with a 7 mile long canal leading to the plant. Four units are of the 440 Mwe VVER 440 design; two are of the 1000 MWe VVER 1000 design. These plants meet the major portion of the electrical demand needs of the country. |

The photo to the right shows the outside of the two VVER-1000 units. VVER-1000 units have a containment design similar to those found in US and western European designs. The VVER-1000 design is discussed further under the Kalinin NPS. |
