Nuclear Power Plants - Bulgaria

Kozloduy Nuclear Power Station

The 6 unit Kozloduy facility is located in northern Bulgaria near the Danube River adjoining Romania . The Danube is used for cooling with a 7 mile long canal leading to the plant. Four units are of the 440 Mwe VVER 440 design; two are of the 1000 MWe VVER 1000 design. These plants meet the major portion of the electrical demand needs of the country.

The photo to the right shows the outside of the two VVER-1000 units. VVER-1000 units have a containment design similar to those found in US and western European designs. The VVER-1000 design is discussed further under the Kalinin NPS.
